BUGSENG at OSS Europe 2026

BUGSENG will take part in Open Source Summit Europe 2026, taking place in Prague, Czechia, from 7 to 9 October 2026.

Organized by the Linux Foundation, Open Source Summit Europe brings together developers, maintainers, technologists, community leaders, and organizations working across the open source ecosystem. The 2026 edition includes several technical tracks, including Embedded Linux Conference, Safety-Critical Software, and Zephyr Developer Summit.

At the event, Roberto Bagnara will present the talk:

Reverse Engineering Zephyr’s Software Architecture for Safety-Critical Use

Zephyr RTOS is becoming increasingly relevant for safety-related and mixed-criticality systems, where qualification and certification must address standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 26262. A key challenge is providing evidence that software components are independent, that freedom from interference is preserved, and that future changes can be assessed without repeating unnecessary qualification work.

The talk will present ongoing work on reverse engineering Zephyr’s effective software architectural constraints using static analysis. Starting from concrete Zephyr configurations, the approach models components, observes calls and data accesses, identifies dependencies, and compares the result with the project’s intended layered architecture.

This analysis supports safety arguments by making software-level independence explicit and checkable. It also enables Change Impact Analysis: when a qualified Zephyr version or configuration evolves, the model helps determine which components, assumptions, tests, and safety evidence are affected. This is essential to make Zephyr’s safety effort sustainable over time and viable for safety-related development.

The session will take place on Thursday, 8 October 2026, from 11:40 to 12:20 CEST, in South Hall 2 A, Floor 2.
