ECLAIR 16.0.0 Now Available

BUGSENG is pleased to announce the release of ECLAIR 16.0.0, the latest version of the ECLAIR Software Verification Platform®.

ECLAIR 16.0.0 is the immediate successor to ECLAIR 3.15.0. The new version number reflects a change in BUGSENG’s release-numbering scheme, not a product discontinuity: under the previous scheme, this release would have been numbered 3.16.0. Starting with ECLAIR 16.0.0, feature releases use the major version number, while minor and patch increments are reserved for clearly identifiable maintenance and vulnerability-remediation releases. This convention has been adopted as part of BUGSENG’s preparations to support the Cyber Resilience Act.

Highlights of ECLAIR 16.0.0

ECLAIR AI Companion and MCP integration

ECLAIR 16.0.0 introduces ECLAIR AI Companion, enabling ECLAIR to interface directly and efficiently with MCP-compatible AI clients through the Model Context Protocol. This opens the way to AI-assisted workflows grounded in ECLAIR knowledge, configurations, coding rules, findings, deviations, and correction activities, while keeping ECLAIR as the source of analysis evidence.

New floating-point literal analysis

The new B.INEXACT_FLT service reports floating-point literals that do not have an exact representation. This helps developers identify values that may introduce or amplify imprecision in floating-point calculations, supporting more careful review of numerical software.

Enhanced architectural independence checks

ECLAIR 16.0.0 improves B.INDEPENDENCE, the ECLAIR service used to define and check software architectural constraints supporting freedom-from-interference and isolation arguments. The added flow-sensitivity support helps reduce avoidable reports by excluding unfeasible code paths, which is especially important in highly configurable software projects.

Expanded toolchain support

The new release adds or improves support for important embedded toolchains, including IAR RH850, Green Hills for Arm, and Keil Arm Compiler 6.

Improved reporting and integrations

ECLAIR 16.0.0 also introduces JSON output generation in eclair_report, improves report usability, and adds syntax highlighting for .ecl files in the Visual Studio Code plugin.

Security and maintenance updates

As part of the release, ECLAIR dependencies have been updated, security maintenance work has been performed, and the license protection mechanisms have been updated.
