BUGSENG at Open Source Summit Europe 2025

We are proud to announce that BUGSENG will be participating in this year’s Open Source Summit Europe, taking place in Amsterdam from August 25–27, 2025. Open Source Summit, hosted by The Linux Foundation, is the premier event for open source developers, technologists, and community leaders to collaborate, share information, solve problems, and gain knowledge, furthering open source innovation and ensuring a sustainable open source ecosystem.

As part of the summit’s agenda, BUGSENG’s Software Verification Expert and Functional Safety Manager, Roberto Bagnara, will deliver a talk titled:

MISRA C and C++ in OSS: Yes, We Can!

In this session, Roberto will explore how open-source software projects can successfully adopt MISRA C and MISRA C++ coding standards, widely recognized guidelines for developing safe and secure systems in critical industries. With open-source software becoming increasingly integral to safety- and security-critical applications, compliance with rigorous coding standards is no longer optional: it’s essential.

The talk will highlight:

• Why unrestricted C and C++ are not suitable for critical systems development
• How MISRA standards provide a structured, safety-conscious subset of the languages
• Practical insights from our experience applying MISRA in major open-source projects, including Xen and Zephyr

Roberto Bagnara is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Parma, a MISRA C and MISRA SQM Working Group member, and contributor to the ISO C language standardization group. With over 40 publications in software verification and programming languages, he brings deep technical insight and real-world experience to the summit.
