ECLAIR 3.7 launches with 3 new code analysis benefits

Wed, 03/18/2020 - 16:58

We initially created ECLAIR, our static code analysis tool, back in 2008. Our aim was, and still is, to help developers build better, more reliable systems. At the same time, we want to help managers ensure code safety, portability and reliability.

We have now launched ECLAIR 3.7 with three valuable new features that will make life easier for developers, software quality engineers and project managers. If you’d like more detail and a demo, check out our webinar link below. Meanwhile, here’s a brief overview of the new features.

Three new benefits of ECLAIR 3.7:

1. An affordable solution for non safety critical projects

This new version of ECLAIR offers extensive support for BARR-C:2018, so developers can follow this coding standard with a more comprehensive tool. In fact, we are confident ECLAIR 3.7 offers the most extensive coverage of BARR-C:2018 available on the market. This makes ECLAIR 3.7 highly suitable for projects that are not (or not recognized as) safety critical.

We are offering this BARR-C:2018 feature at no extra cost to anyone who buys a MISRA package.

2. More effective project management

With ECLAIR 3.7, you can work with software metrics directly from the GUI. This acts as a prioritization mechanism for project managers. The tool quickly identifies any metrics out of the threshold range. This provides a simple and effective early warning sign to help managers keep control of projects.

3. Save time when fixing code violations

ECLAIR 3.7 offers new, more flexible facilities for filtering and prioritizing reports. For example, it makes it easier to select compliance violations that are classified as ‘mandatory’, while temporarily hiding those that are classified as ‘required’ or ‘advisory’. In a similar way, engineers working on fixing code violations can easily hide or show the parts that are third party software or automatically generated code.

This new feature allows any user to select specific violations at the visualization phase. There’s no need to redo the analysis to achieve this. This is a major time saver for those working on fixing code violations and it means they can prioritize the most important ones to work on first.

If you’d like to know more about these new ECLAIR 3.7 features, BUGSENG’s CTO, Roberto Bagnara, is running a webinar where he will explain everything in more detail. The webinar will include a demonstration of ECLAIR 3.7, live, on a real software project. There’s still time to sign up, but don’t delay; the webinar is: Wednesday 25 March 2020, 11:00 - 12:00 CET (UTC +1)

BUGSENG is Certified ISO 9001:2015

We’re also delighted to announce that BUGSENG's quality system has been certified by TÜV Italia (TÜV SÜD Group) to comply with the requirements of UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 for the "Design, development, maintenance and support of tools for software verification and validation (IAF 33)."

This independent quality mark has been awarded to BUGSENG as an organization, rather than for specific products or services. It provides additional reassurance to our customers that our internal procedures covering areas such as software releases, testing, and identifying and fixing defects, are of a high standard and properly and consistently recorded and followed. You can download a copy of the certificate here.

Roberto Bagnara, PhD is CTO of BUGSENG, a leading provider of solutions and services for static code analysis. He is also a member of the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG14 - C Standardization Working Group and the MISRA C Working Group.
